Case Study
Background
Building a interactive installation to motivate users not to reduce the production of food waste
Design an engaging post-game experience that motivates users to minimize food waste by highlighting its environmental impact. Use clear, actionable messaging and intuitive visuals to educate players on the severity of food waste, reinforcing positive behavior change after gameplay.

Problem
🍔 Excessive Food Waste in Wealthy Nations
Consumers in high-income countries waste nearly 222 million tonnes of food annually—equivalent to the net food production of Sub-Saharan Africa which reflects systemic inefficiencies in food distribution, storage, and consumer habits, straining resources (e.g., water, labor) and exacerbating global inequality.
🍴 Over-Consumption’s Health Impacts
Over-consumption of food (linked to waste) contributes to health crises like obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Wealthier nations often prioritize quantity over nutritional value, perpetuating unhealthy eating cycles while food waste coexists with food insecurity elsewhere.
🌲 Environmental Degradation
Food waste directly harms the environment through greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion (land, water, energy). If food waste were a country, it’d be the 3rd-largest emitter globally. Overproduction to meet wasteful demand accelerates deforestation and biodiversity loss.
